Here is a complete overview of the 8 unique travel experiences with Intrepid Vacations and their three travel styles.
For those who love to bike and cycle and want to slow down to see the scenery, Intrepid has amazing new cycling themed tours that will just knock your socks off. The best part is, you are not required to bring your own bike! Intrepid will supply you with both a bike that is under three years old, as well as a guide that knows every path you’ll take. They will also take care of your luggage! By transferring it from site to site for you, you don’t have to worry about lugging it on your back.
Pro-tip: You are required to wear a helmet while riding, so you will either need to bring one or purchase one from a local shop once you get to your start city. Lastly, Intrepid’s cycling tours do range from leisurely to active, so please ask your travel agent what the Physical Rating on the itinerary is.
Walking & Trekking
If cycling is not your thing, but you still want to be active, check out Intrepid’s walking and trekking itineraries! Intrepid has two main walking itineraries to choose from, guided and self-guided. For self-guided walks, you will be given detailed maps and notes of the routes so you don’t get lost. Your main luggage will also be moved between destinations so you will not have to carry it. Walking & Trekking adventures can have a Cycling leg. This is another theme where we recommend you ask your Travel Agent what the Physical Rating is before you book.
If you are a fan of trying new foods or a down right Foodie, Intrepid’s Real Food Adventures will give you a lunch pass around the world. With itineraries ranging from 8 to 15 days that are jam-packed with history and culture, your stomach won’t be the only part of you that will be satisfied! Each tour is designed to maximize your culinary experience in every region you visit- From the bone warming Pho in Vietnam to fresh Ceviche on the Mexican coast. Dinner’s calling, why not get a tour guide and accommodation as well.
Pro-tip: If you are getting to your tour a day early or staying an extra day at the end, ask Intrepid also has Urban Appetizers. These are short food tours that are about two to six hours long, and are a great way to explore the city more. Or stay an extra two or three days with Intrepids Bite-Sized Breaks.
One of the best things about sailing is you can sit on the deck and drink a glass of wine, or help the skipper man the deck. Sailing tours are incredible limited in availability, with ships holding only 8 to 14 people per date. Intrepid also has Adventure Sailing, which is very similar to regular sailing but with some additional perks. Not only are these ships bigger, but are equipped with more crew members, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. While these yachts have many of the benefits of an ocean cruise line, they are much smaller. This allows you to experience smaller ports cruise lines are too big to dock at.
Intrepid has developed a better style of family travel, one that favors real life experiences over the virtual ones. Start with kid-friendly hotels, and then sprinkle in a tuk-tuk ride through the streets of Bangkok, a football match with Maasai tribesmen or sailing down the Nile in an Egyptian felucca. There are many benefits to Family style vacations. Not only are the groups smaller, averaging to about 10 people, but children 14 and under get 10% off! However, in order to go on a Family Style vacation you must have at least one person under the age of 18 going with you. There are also some “Teen” itineraries that require the child to be at least 11 years old to participate.
Intrepid is known for loving animals and was one of the first Animal Friendly Tourist companies in the industry. This means your interactions will not cause the animals any harm or discomfort. Intrepid will also teach you ways to identify animal friendly excursions. Both your safety and happiness as well as the animals is Intrepid’s number 1 priority. Wildlife tours are often paired with other themed vacations such as Family, Overland, and Sailing.
An Overland tour is the ultimate road trip that will take you off the beaten path! Intrepid offers Overland tours in Africa, Asia, North America, South America, and Central America. You will drive for most of the day and will and accommodations can be basic. However, the views are some of the best in the world. It is also perfect if want to sleep under the stars in Australia or go camping with lions in Africa. Overland will offer you the experience of a lifetime.
Intrepid also has affordable trips to the Arctic and the Antarctic. Not only will you get to see wildlife in some of the most remote places on Earth! But, Intrepid also has optional activities that include camping, mountaineering, sea kayaking, and snowshoeing.
Intrepid’s Travel Styles
This is a perfect for the traveler who is looking for accommodations that are clean, simple, and want something centrally located. Basix are also designed so that you have more free time to do your own thing. However, you will still have a Local leader and some group activities. Some of the Basix itineraries can have shared accommodations for part of the trip, regardless if you have paid a single supplement.
This is Intrepid’s original level of comfort. In most locations you will stay at tourist hotels that are 2-3 stars that are centrally located. You will also get a Local leader, more group activities, and some meals are also included.
Comfort is the nicest of the accommodation styles. For example, you will stay in a 17th-century chateau during your “Highlights of France”, and at a jungle lodge with a 360-degree view on your “Costa Rica Jungle Adventure”. These tours move at a more relaxed pace, and include more meals, more leader-lead activities, and more immersive itineraries.
