This spring, I embarked on my first ever river cruise. I chose a unique itinerary called Enchanting Belgium with Avalon Waterways focusing on the Maas River (also known as la Meuse in French) and the tributaries of Belgium.

From June 4th – 11th, we had the pleasure of sailing with Holland America Line on its “Norse Legends” cruise. From every perspective, this trip had a wow factor of 100! Our ship, the ms Koningsdam, was an oceangoing destination in its own right. Our stateroom with veranda was lovely and the service from our largely Indonesian crew was impeccable.

Unlike 99% of AmaWaterways’ cruises, my first impression when I arrived in Basel left little to be desired. After watching another couple who was on the same ship get picked up and taken to the ship, my transfer never showed up. I had to take a taxi to the ship.
