I’ve always been intrigued with Europe. After traveling Western Europe, I finally decided that Eastern Europe was going to be my next adventure.

The first city that I visited was Budapest; it is the Capitol of Hungary. Along both sides of the Danube River, was the Buda Hills to the west and the Great Plain to the east, Budapest is a picturesque city. I dare to say that although I have seen so much of the world in the past 20 years, Budapest is by far has the most enchanting evening views than all other cities I have seen before.

Upon arriving to Serbia and Sarajevo, you can immediately feel the passion of the people who live there. Actually seeing the country that has survived great struggles to achieve their freedom, you feel as if you can truly absorb the history much more clearly. I felt excited for the people who are now free to live a better life.

The city of Dubrovnik was absolutely breathtaking. Relaxing at the Hotel Dubrovnik Palace that is overlooking the Adriatic Sea is almost being awake in a dream. The bluest of seas, crisp air and the quaint villages are overwhelmingly beautiful.

Transylvania was a place that I’ve always wanted to see. This medieval fortress guarding the Transylvanian border is near beautiful Brasov where the old Town Hall Square is lined with the image of red-roofed houses and dominated by the Black Church. I can just imagine the horse drawn carriage careering up the wet mountainous road- thunder and lightning illuminating the fortress. The castles and cities along the way left an impression that I will never forget. You can touch, breathe and almost imagine yourself right into their past when visit Dracula’s castle and a 300 year old church in Arbanasi.

A surprising place that left an imprint in my heart was Ohrid, Macedonia. This mountain-ringed Lake dotted with monasteries and villages is as breathtaking as its neighboring coast of Croatia but with smaller crowed of visitors that allow you to enjoy without the hustle of a tourist takeover. The food and scenery was unbelievable. Shopping and dining along the sea was something that I will never ever forget. The entire city is charming and inviting, I felt so at home. This is a place that makes you consider retiring in, it’s that special.

Now I understand and appreciate this part of the world so much more than before. This is only the first of many more exciting surprises that I plan to discover in Eastern Europe, a place that moved my soul forever.
